Stage Three: Review the First Sample Systematically

Check the silhouette before the decoration

Start with the overall shape. Review crown height, front-panel proportion, visor curve or flatness, side profile, rear profile, and how the cap sits when worn. If the silhouette is not correct, decoration changes alone will not solve the problem.

Check the material and structure

Inspect the fabric surface, firmness, weight impression, seams, reinforcement, and internal finishing. Compare the physical hand-feel with the intended product direction. A cap designed to look structured should not rely on decoration to create the appearance of structure.

Check decoration at actual scale

Review logo size, placement, edge definition, stitch density, raised areas, patch edges, print clarity, and the relationship between multiple decoration locations. Check whether fine lines remain legible and whether dimensional elements distort the artwork.

Check the closure and wear experience

Open and close the closure repeatedly during review. Inspect the adjustment range, hardware or snap alignment, rear label position, and whether the closure supports the intended silhouette. Small rear details can affect how the cap sits and how the product feels in daily use.

Check the finishing hierarchy

Look at internal labels, seam tapes, trims, undervisor details, packaging direction, and other finishing elements together. The objective is not to add every possible detail. It is to ensure that the details support the main product idea.

Stage Four: Turn Feedback into a Controlled Revision

Feedback should describe the difference between the approved direction and the physical sample. “Make it better” is difficult to action; “raise the front graphic slightly, reduce the side mark, and keep the crown shape unchanged” is reviewable.

Use a simple revision record with four fields:

  1. Observed: what the sample currently shows
  2. Required change: what should be adjusted
  3. Keep unchanged: what has already been approved
  4. Review method: what the next sample or evidence must confirm

  • The closure is aligned and usable
